Despite it’s not available in the United States yet, it deserves a comparison with the phone that is making Americans addicted, the iPhone.
In my previous brief comparison between the iPhone and the N95, the latter was the winner, since many advanced features in the N95 are not available on the iPhone yet.
That being said, this is more and more true for the N82. iPhone lacks of GPS, of a decent camera (N82 is a 5Mpix camera with Carl Zeiss optics, way far from that integrated into the iPhone) and of the ability to record videos (that you can now easily share with applications like ShoZu or QIK). In addition, the GPS supplied with the N82 is much better and faster than the N95′s one and with the latest version of Google Maps, you can use it within that application too and not only with Nokia Maps.
The camera of the N82 has been improved with a built-in Xenon flash, that lets you take much better pictures and, last but not least, it’s a 3G phone, much faster then the iPhone when it comes to browse the web or receiving emails and the ability to make video calls. Steve Jobs lost this opportunity during the last MacWorld unfortunately…
So, why the iPhone? The answer is easy: it’s easy to use and looks great. Performing some actions and tasks is easier on the iPhone than on the Nokia, that’s the reason why I’m looking forward to seeing if during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Nokia will finally and officially launch the iPhone killer, rumored some time ago.
What do I choose? If I could get an iPhone in Italy, I would get one, just because it’s cool and everything on it looks nice. But it has to be 3G and with a better camera, otherwise the N82 is a much better choice to me.
