Regular readers and Twitter followers should be aware I was looking forward to replacing my mobile phone. My Nokia N95 is almost dead and the Nokia 6210 provided by my company’s mobile operator is definitely not enough for a strong business usage.

All that said, I was looking for an alternative. Here is the short list:

- Apple iPhone

- Blackberry Storm

- Blackberry Bold

I have to say I used the iPhone a lot since I gave one to my wife a couple of months ago and I used Internet on that device much more than what she did. I had the opportunity to try the Bold and Storm  as well, but just at the local dealer. The deal-killer for the Storm was the lack of Wifi. It was not that bad, but Wifi was a must-have for me.

All that said and keeping in mind all the recommendations received from many friends out there, I ended up getting a Blackberry Bold.  One of the main reasons is that our mobile carrier, Three Italy, offers it together with a very convenient plan which also let us save money.

The result is well summarized by my tweet a couple of days ago, also noticed by Jim Courtnery at Skype Journal, the man who is responsible for having shown that device to me back in September while we were attending ITExpo in Los Angeles.

Aside from the typo (iPone…), why did I say that?

1) Always on Experience: the BB is offering me a realtime always-on experience never found  in any device I used before

2) Multitasking – It lets you receive IMs while writing an email or making a phone call, for example

3) Stunning display

4) Wide availability of apps

5) Crazy speed

6) Great usability

Jim highlights other features which definitely make the Bold a far superior device than the iPhone when it comes to use it intensely for business. On the other hand, I have to admit the browser experience on the iPhone is better, but I still haven’t had issues on the Bold, right now it’s been just a difference of screen size (not resolution).

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. It’s really worth it and I repeat: it’s the best mobile communication device I ever tried so far.

My wife is getting a HTC Diamond... I still don't have an opinion, but I heard the Touch HD is a very good device.

Any opinions on the HTC Touch HD ? I'm thinking about getting one.
Happy festive season!

Lucca, and how does your BB compare to Nokia E71?
