In a nutshell, WiPhone is a service that lets customers call for free any italian landline from Wifi areas as well as send SMS and update your Twitter or Facebook status (always for free if under WiFi coverage). At the same time, they offer a unique rate to call other Tiscali mobile phones for 8 eurocents / minute and 15 eurocents/min for any other mobile operator.
Rates for international calls are very aggressive, too (for example, you can call US mobile or landline for 0.019 euro only. WiPhone is basically a little software that can be installed on most mobile phones. Most Nokia are supported while other platforms like iPhone, BlackBerry and Android will be available soon.
The service costs euro 5 / month and works regardless you are already a Tiscali customer or not. I’m happy to see Tiscali working hard to differentiate their offer from the competition and I think this is a major step forward towards a real convergence between mobile, landline and data/voice services.
